Goals are a key to our success. They are what the business world uses as its report card. I believe our goals must also be connected to our life’s mission and vision. Our goals, in order to be accomplished and more importantly to bring us closer to fulfillment, must also be anchored to something which is bigger than ourselves. As I reflect on what I was created to do and the work which is meant exclusively for me, I feel every part of my Body, Mind, and Spirit telling me to share my beliefs. So I boldly share with you my thoughts regarding why I know that I was “Created for a Purpose.”
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Many verses in the Bible give us confirmation that we have ALL been created for a purpose. This verse from Ephesians gives us 3 powerful promises I/we can stand firm in;
- God’s workmanship – God created each one of us perfectly, just the way he wanted us to be. Do you believe you are a perfect creation? I know I struggle with this. As a believer I am humble and reverent in my relationship with the Lord. God isn’t telling me to go out and brag or boast about what I do well, but he wants me to take ownership of what he made and not waste it. He doesn’t want me to rely on what the world says about what is and isn’t success or my own insecurities about what I can and can’t do. He wants me to be confident and assured that I matter. Why? Because he created me. God doesn’t make junk.
- ..to do good works – This is where the rubber meets the road and every Christian is called to walk the talk. For me this is the place where my insecurities and self-talk really show up. You hear about a great project and you get that gut feeling you need to be a part of the team. Then your brain starts processing and you look at who is currently involved. Several things can sabatoge your desire to contribute. First you see it is a great team and you feel you can’t possibly contribute anything else to their efforts. The, “I’m not good enough”, self talk sets in. Or worse yet you look at the group and think oh my this group has got some huge challenges they’ll never get anything accomplished and it will be a big waste of time. There is too many personalities to deal with. The, “I don’t want to deal with the mess”, which is basically pride stepping and saying I am too good or don’t want to be associated with this team self talk. This one really stings. Am I being prideful? Do I truly think God would not be there to support our efforts? Here is where faith comes in. Okay so I believe God made me great, now I must also acknowledge there are good works he needs me to do. What I have found time and time again is that when I step up to do something God has put on my heart he always blesses me. And the truth is I always feel a bit nervous about my ability, I always feel I can’t quite make the mark, but I also know that I must be obedient to his requests. I can’t fully explain how you can be of service to others and feel even more blessed than those you are helping, but believe it is true. This truly is a WIN-WIN-WIN situation. God Wins, They Win and I/We Win!!!
- ..prepared in advance for us to do – This is our assurance that God has a plan for us. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel or try to come up with something on our own. He has the plan. We need to be in relationship with him and take notice of what comes our way. Having a constant line of communication with God will help us in discerning how he wants us to use our gifts. How he wants us to represent him in world. How he wants us to live our lives in service. How he wants us to give him all the glory and honor.
I believe our true Joy as Christians comes when we fully embrace, accept and act on His promise. Don’t short change yourself of His blessings. Remember YOU were created for a purpose.
In 2010 I am boldly stepping out to speak about my passion which is fueled by the Holy Spirit that is in me. As a business owner of a Leadership Development and Business Coaching company, I want to help fellow Christian business owners become the “Spirited Entrepreneurs” God created them to be and reach the levels of success they desire. Will you join me for the ride? I’d love to hear your comments. Please click on comments to post your opinion on this article.
Blessings on Your Journey…
